Todd: Tennessee!

TennYes!

Todd: We're gonna talk about sports.

TennOK. I'm not big on sports, but.

Todd: OK, well, that's OK. So you, you don't like sports.

TennWell, I like sports but I'm just not an avid, uh, sports watcher. You know I would usually rather watch a movie or some kind of history program.

Todd: Oh, OK. So you're into history.

TennOh, yes!

Todd: OK. What kind of history?

TennThat's a kind of a difficult question. I would say, ah, interested, primarily I interested in ancient and mideval but I also like studying the history of the countries that I have visited it makes it more interesting when I go sight-seeing.

Todd: OK. What countries have you visited?

TennI've been to 26 countries.

Todd: Really!

TennYeah!

Todd: Oh, OK. Yeah, you can't name them all.

TennThe big ones I would say, I've been over a good bit of Europe, ah, Mexico, Peru, I spent almost a year in Egypt and I went to Isreal, Jordan, and now I'm here in Japan. I've been here in Japan for a year and a half. And while I have been here, I visited Korea for about a week.

Todd: OK. Wow. That's a lot so did you do the Pyramids in Egypt?

Tenn: Oh, yes. Actually, I climbed the pyramids.

Todd: Oh, really. Nice. What's it like on the top?

Tenn: Very, very interesting. You can see, ah, it was during the summer so the visibility was rather low.

Todd: Oh, OK.

Tenn: But, to see, we were on The Great Pyramid, and the second Pyramid, Kefron, was right near by, and it is a very different perspective to see it from, interesting to be eye-level, to be on the same level as the top of that second pyramid.

Todd: OK. Wow! So you were in Peru, right?

TennYes.

Todd: OK. What's the big thing people see in Peru?

TennMachu Pichu.

Todd: Machu Pichu. OK. What is Machu Pichu?

TennMachu Pichu is the ruins of a city that was built by the Inca People.

Todd: OK.

TennOver three...six hundred years ago, and was lost, no one knew what happened to it. until it was recently discovered about a hundred years ago.

Todd: OK. Wow. Nice. Alright, thanks a lot David

TennSure!

Todd: Or Tennessee.

IELTS Speaking: movie-going to cinema

IELTS Speaking Test:
.
(movie-going to cinema)
.
.
Tom: Do you go to the cinema a lot Martin?
.
.
Martin: I used to quite often, Tom, but lately I just haven't found the time or the cinemas around here aren't quite as big here.
.
.
Tom: So, I guess you've had time to contemplate on it. What's your favorite movie of all time? Well, my favorite movie, and the best movie I've ever seen would have to be Seven Samurai, the story about a small peasant village in Japan, hired in Seven Samurai to protect it and the ensuing struggles that the villagers had with the samurai, and the Samurai did with themselves and then the final fight that they has with the bandits that were trying to take the peasants grain. It's a magnificent story.
.
.
Martin: It's a classic. It's black and white, right?
.
.
Tom: Yes, it is. It was made by the Japanese director Akira Kurasawa. I think it was 1956 or 57, but it's affected so many other movies, Tom.
.
.
Martin: I mean if you look at the Magnificent Seven, the Western, it's modeled directly after that, as well as some other modern movies that you might not think as much about. Roger Corman's, Battle Beyond the Stars with George Peppard (Are you serious?) was modeled straight off of Seven Samurai, and even Bug's Life.
.
.
Tom: Wow. Now that I think of that I can see that.
.
.
Martin: Yeah, it's a really important movie.
.
.
Martin: How about you Tom? What's your favorite movie of all time?
.
.
Tom: I don't know about of old time, but recently, and don't laugh
when I say this, Pirates of the Caribbean was an absolute masterpiece. I saw the trailer so many times in the cinema and just thought it was going to be rubbish, but when I eventually got around to seeing it, it was full of good jokes and it was Jonny Depp as a pirate going around the Caribbean. There was a ghost story. There was a love story in it. There was a young man who'd run away to join the Pirate's. The whole thing was just action packed, funny and colorful. It was a really entertaining movie.
.
.
Martin: Yeah, I would agree with you Tom. It was very fun and Johnny Depp was great, modelling Keith Richards as a pirate. I think that...
.
.
Tom: Well, I heard that he was modelling the original ride at Disneyland.
.
.
Martin: Oh, really.
.
.
Tom: The mechanical models jerking around on the pirate ship, the mannequins, I heard that was what he modeled his character on.
.
.
Martin: I heard he modeled after Keith Richards.
.
.
Tom: He's the kind of actor who comes up with a different story at every interview.
.
.
Martin: Well, I guess that's why he's acting

IELTS Speaking: Describing Family Members

IELTS Speaking Test:
Describing Family Members

Todd: Adrienne, we are talking about your family. Can describe the people in your family? Like, what's your mother like, and your father like and your sister?

Adrienne: OK, well, let me start with my mother. I'm hoping she doesn't listen to this, though, maybe. My mother is a very interesting. She has a great sense of humor and she's a very kind woman, very generous woman. She's also not afraid to say what she is thinking, which is a quality I admire about her very much.

Todd: What about your father? How would you describe your dad?

Adrienne: My dad is probably the nicest man you'll ever meet. He's very kind, very generous, very warm-heart and he's really a good guy and I love him very much.

Todd: And actually I met your father and he's a very big guy.

Adrienne: He is. Which means he has a very big heart.

Todd: Right.

Adrienne: He is. My dad's very tall and takes up a lot of space. It's true.

Todd: Gentle-Giant, right?

Adrienne: Something like that. Yeah. Yeah.

Todd: OK, now you have a sister. Is she younger or older?

Adrienne: Younger sister.

Todd: Oh, younger sister. How would you describe her personality?

Adrienne: My sister is actually quite similar to my dad in that she has a very good heart and she's very generous and very open, very friendly and giving personality and she is probably the only person on the planet who can make me laugh at any moment.

Todd: That's nice.

Adrienne: She cracks me up. So, She's got a great sense of humor, but part of that probably comes from being sisters too.

Todd: Now you said that your sister is very similar to your father, so you are very similar to your mother?

Adrienne: Coincidentally, yes, actually. My mother and I have a lot in common in terms of our personality, which means that we get along very well and then sometimes we don't. Cause we remind each other of each other perhaps.

Todd: So, like what traits do you have in common?

Adrienne: I would say that we both very often say what we're thinking, which not everybody likes all of the time.

Todd: I think being outspoken is good.

Adrienne: It can be. It can be which is why I think it's a good quality but it sometimes can lead to more conflict than you're prepared for.

Todd: Right. Well, it sounds like you have a nice balance.

Adrienne: Mm, we do.
